Edges
I chose edges as my topic because it sound and looks easier for me to do giving me more options when taking pictures of edges and sorting out my composition also making things easier if i need to evaluate the images that i took or just evaluating in general.
To start off i used an ipod to take my first couple of images of edges around thomas tallis school.
WWW: When i was going around school taking pictures it wasnt to difficult to find edges to take pictures of. EBI: i didnt really understand/know what i was doing and even when i knew that i had to take pictures of edges, i was still confused on what the question meant by take photos of edges. |
Randy Grskovic
I took a big interest in Randy Grskovic's work because i haven't seen hand made work like this before and wanted to see if i could make something like this, but i did also think that it looked really awesome the way he had used scalpels, rulers and other objects to reshape the way the image is presented. The way he has reshaped the image, I think was very smooth because though its been slightly moved or relocated to a different part of the photo the image still looks really great. I also liked his work because I wanted to try make some reshaped images myself and it looked really fun to try as well.
Experiments
First experiment |
My first experiment was quite difficult because i knew what i wanted to do but i had not taken down/ done any measurements, because of this i could not shape the image to how i wanted which also meant i just had to improvise and shape the sliced up image another way.
At the time i didn't know that you had to take measurements and what equipment i was supposed to use so that meant that it was going to be hard to shape as well. For my next experiment i know now that i have to take measurements before i start slicing and that to do these experiments i need to use a scalpel and objects that help me make shape within the image, for example, some tape, a square or rectangular object, etc. |
Other experiments
For my work i tried to base it off of Randy Grskovic (which involved some time consuming practical work).
I had to print out images i had taken earlier and then cut and reshape them using different tools.
The aim of this type of experiment is to reshape an image so that it looks deformed and not look normally meaning multiple parts of the image would have to be cut out and moved around to look rather odd but even then some of them would look really great.
Reshaping images is a lot of fun but it took up a lot of time and would be really boring sometimes and i wish i had better tools that could use because using what i only could the reshaping the image wasn't so easy because the image wouldn't always end up how i wanted it to, this is really frustrating because with work like this you want to make sure it ends up how you want it to or you'll have to start over because it might not look like the good type of weird you want.
Also measurements was a massive issue when doing work like this because when you want to swap to parts of the around then you have to have good measurements otherwise those separate parts might not fit in other slots of the image.

Final piece
I chose this picture to be my final piece because i think it looks more beautiful than the other images, i think that because when i took the picture it was just what i needed to do this practical which was having a close up picture of a flower so that when the image was sliced and moved around, i could still have what i want the people viewing my image to focus on the flower and see how i have reshaped the image.
I also enjoyed reshaping this image the most because it was when i found out that i could use the paper trimmer to slice some of my images where as the first two pictures i had to use a scalpel which really made my hand ache. I had to make precise cuts to the image which is why i used the scalpel and the paper trimmer. |
Final piece 2
I tried to base this final piece around broken glass such as when a window is broken, i think it went quite well and the way i wanted it to go which i was very impressed with this piece because it was my first attempt. When taking the photo for this piece i had to make sure that i had focused the camera on the right object but still had a bright background, so as you can see all the pointed tips are directed to the centre where the the focus ends at the bright blurred background.
I had used the paper trimmer once again to do this final piece as it was a lot easier for me to use than the photoshop programme which i had a of difficulty with. I had also tried to use other programmes to create guide lines just incase i would have to have exact measurements but it turned out that i didn't, I only thought this because with my other experiments i didn't take down measurements and they turned out kind of wrong. |
Final evaluation
When we started the project i didn't know much about what i had to do apart from we had choices which were disguises, opening, etc. i chose edges which i thought i literally had to take photos of edges until we were told to look on the tallis arts pinterest, we were told to look on pinterest and find a photographer that is doing work that was similar to what ever project we chose, the photographer/artist i found was Randy Grskovic and i took a big interest in his work because i had not seen work like his before and all his work was practical and i really enjoy doing practical work. Once i found a photographer i was interested in i had to base my work off of that photographer's work and Randy Grskovic's work involves Cutting and reshaping an images making it look like a puzzle, so a viewer could probably recognise what the image should originally look like.
With my first experiment i was just copying one of his ideas but it didn't go so well because his work is actually really complicated and i think there are a load of measurements that you have to take down to form his kind of work and i didn't know that until i had done the first experiment. When i moved on to more of my own experiments i had to find out what tools i was going to use and plan out how i was going to make my first outcome.
